Jewish-Muslim Relations in Europe and the U.S.: Solidarity and Its Challenges

Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University

Case Western Reserve University’s Siegal Lifelong Learning presents a course examining Jewish-Muslim relations through historical, cultural, political, and social lenses, exploring the rich and intertwined histories of the two communities alongside shared intellectual traditions and periods of exchange and coexistence. The course also investigates how both communities have been racialized, scapegoated, and marginalized in Europe and the United States, while recognizing the important differences in their experiences. Turning to the present, participants will consider contemporary challenges and opportunities for Jewish-Muslim dialogue, drawing on Professor Becker-Topkara’s model of intimate, social, and political engagement to explore the possibilities and limits of solidarity.
