Intermarriage and Halachic Creativity: Reading the Book of Ruth
Hosted By: Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program ("CSP")
Community Scholar Program presents a lecture on how the Book of Ruth reworks earlier biblical laws and stories, including Deuteronomy’s ban on Moabites and Ammonites. The session explores how the narrative functions as a form of halachic midrash that ultimately opens the door to accepting Moabite and Ammonite women within the people of Israel. At its center is a moral message that hesed, loyalty, and human goodness matter more than ethnicity.
