Inside the Jewish Quarter of Budapest: Hidden Synagogues, Hidden Stories

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher presents a virtual tour of Jewish Budapest, sharing stories of a community that continues to flourish despite the many challenges it has faced from the time of the Austrian Empire through the Holocaust, the communist era, and into the present day. The tour explores the city’s Jewish Quarter, home to the three largest synagogues in Budapest along with numerous hidden synagogues and lesser-known communal buildings. Though the district has become one of the city’s most popular and gentrified areas, full of bars, shops, restaurants, and nightlife, it still brims with Jewish life.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
