Illuminating the Shem Tov Bible: A Masterpiece of Medieval Jewish Art and Scholarship
Hosted By: Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program ("CSP")
The Community Scholar Program will present an online event exploring the Shem Tov Bible, an illuminated manuscript recently auctioned at Sotheby’s. Created by Rabbi Shem Tov Ibn Gaon, a halakhic and kabbalistic scholar, the manuscript reflects the confluence of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim aesthetic traditions in medieval Iberia. The session, led by Shaul Seidler-Feller, will cover the manuscript’s origins, artistic techniques, and its significance in Jewish history.
