Join us for an uplifting session to explore a range of mindfulness exercises to help get you through the pandemic with your spirit intact.

Judaism and modern psychology provide tools for surviving and thriving in uncertain times. This session will highlight how to harness the power of these resources to help you take charge in any unstable environment.

Special guest Yamila Zimerman will present techniques connected to the discipline of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Rena Secter Elbaze will highlight some of the age-old coping mechanisms available in our Jewish wisdom tool kit to be used on a daily basis.

Yamila Zimerman

Yamila Zimerman is a graduate student completing her Master’s in Arts in Counselling Psychology. She has an Advanced Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Minor in Family Social Sciences. She specializes in counselling those struggling with stress anxiety and wide range of emotions. She is currently a student member with the Canadian counselling and psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and will be licensed through CPPA in 2022 as a professional member. She has certification in life coaching and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBC T).

Dr. Rena Secter Elbaze

Dr. Rena Secter Elbaze has been the Director of Engagement and Education at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Winnipeg, Canada since September 2016. Dr. Elbaze graduated in 1999 from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, France with a Doctoral degree in Communications dealing with Israel’s Image in the Media. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Rena earned her bachelor’s degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from the University of Manitoba and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1985. Since 2012, Dr. Elbaze has worked as a professional in the Jewish Community for Jewish Federation of Winnipeg and Jewish Child and Family Service before joining Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
