How to Celebrate the High Holidays in Secular and Cultural Ways

Hosted By: 18Doors, Secular Synagogue

In this workshop, Rabbi Denise Handlarski will offer ideas and examples for how to mark this important time of year without prayer or synagogue services. This is for people who are looking for a cultural/secular/spiritual (and of course interfaith) but not religious approach to the holidays.

We will cover:

-Setting intentions for the year ahead
-The shmita/ sabbatical year and why it’s special
-Ideas for how to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at home/ in nature/ with community
-Ideas for how to mark Yom Kippur, including memorial elements and making amends
-Other ways of marking the “days of awe” in a way that feels awesome and awe-inspiring
-Real life examples from intercultural/interfaith couples and their families
