SUMMARY:Intro to Mah Jongg Spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:Master Mah Jongg: A Beginner’s Intro to the Beloved Game \n4 Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. ET\nMay 13 – June 3 \nAll classes will be recorded and sent to registrants. \nReady to jump in and learn the game that American Jews have loved for decades? Good — because it’s not just your bubbe’s game anymore! \n \nLearn the basics of mah jongg from two of the best teachers in the country: Dara Collins and Donna Kassman\, the founders of Modern Mahjong\, who have taught beginners and advanced players for years. \nAfter these four hour-long online sessions\, you’ll have a solid foundational knowledge of the game. You can review recordings of the lessons for a month after the final class session ends\, too\, to sharpen your skills. \nSo pull up a chair\, bring all of your questions (and your friends)\, and let’s learn how to play mah jongg this summer! \nAlthough your teachers recommend investing in a mah jongg tile set\, you do not need one for this course. You can learn with paper cutouts to start with. \n

SUMMARY:Friday Evening Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.

SUMMARY:David and Jonathan: The Textually Explicit Version
DESCRIPTION:The Spinoza Havurah: The Zoom Shul presents a close reading of the relationship between David and Jonathan as it appears in the book of Samuel\, examining the story’s explicit and implicit sexuality without apologetics. The session is led by Elliot Vaisrub Glassenberg\, queer Jewish educator-activist and senior educator at BINA: The Home of Israeli Judaism. Participants will work directly with the text to consider what the narrative itself reveals about one of the Bible’s most intimate relationships.
