SUMMARY:Leadership in an Age of Moral Crisis
DESCRIPTION:The London School of Jewish Studies presents a timely exploration of leadership in times of moral crisis and social breakdown. Drawing on the responses of the Sages after the destruction of the Temple\, the session examines how rabbinic leaders confronted failed authority\, fragmentation\, and ethical decline while reshaping Judaism for life in exile. Participants will consider what this model of moral courage\, communal responsibility\, and long-term vision can teach contemporary societies facing instability and uncertainty.

SUMMARY:Jewish Life in the Confederate South: The Diary of Emma Mordecai
DESCRIPTION:The Community Scholar Program presents a discussion of “The Civil War Diary of Emma Mordecai\,” exploring the life of a complicated figure who was both a staunch defender of Judaism and an ardent Confederate nationalist and slaveowner. The diary captures the messiness of history and the ambiguous place of Jews in the antebellum and Civil War South. The book was initiated by the late Dr. Dianne Ashton\, Professor Emerita of Philosophy and World Religion at Rowan University\, and completed after her passing by Dr. Melissa R. Klapper\, Professor of History at Rowan University.

SUMMARY:The Jews of Ukraine: A Virtual Tour of Kyiv and Odesa
DESCRIPTION:Qesher presents a virtual exploration of Ukraine’s Jewish heritage through its two key cities\, Kyiv and Odesa. Jews have lived in Kyiv since the 8th century\, and the city has been home to renowned scholars and rabbis\, writers and Zionist thinkers\, and influential figures in business\, culture\, and politics\, while knowing both great prosperity and profound tragedy. Odesa\, by contrast\, is often regarded by many Russian-speaking Jews as the Jewish capital of the former USSR.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.
