Finding God in Our Relationships: Insights from Martin Buber
Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University
This lecture will focus on Martin Buber, a social and religious thinker who warned that modern societies and institutions increasingly disconnected people from each other and from God. Rather than view these as separate problems, he believed that we would find God by being open to human connections, what he called being in dialogue with others. In his celebrated translations and commentaries on Hasidic stories and his famous work I and Thou, Buber calls upon people to create communities that value the whole person, allowing the divine presence to dwell within it.
