Film Screening and Director Talk: ‘The Spy Behind Home Plate’
Hosted By: Haberman Institute
The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a screening and director talk with Aviva Kempner about “The Spy Behind Home Plate,” which traces the double life of Moe Berg, a Newark intellectual who played catcher for five major league teams and served as a spy for the OSS during World War II as part of the effort to undermine the German atomic bomb program. The film draws on rare archival footage and interviews with historians, sportswriters, and espionage experts, with an at-home viewing window from July 9 to 13. The online talk includes a conversation and Q&A with Kempner about the project, her decades of work exploring unknown Jewish stories, and her upcoming films.
