Faith, Food, & Infamy: The Complete Lower East Side Walking Tour
The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy presents a tour of one of the most diverse and amazing neighborhoods in the world, tracing its history from affluent suburb to German Kleindeutschland enclave, the largest Jewish Ghetto in the world, and later home to Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and expanding Chinese communities. Led by Brad Shaw, a native of the Lower East Side and lifelong observer, the walk visits historic places of worship, ethnic eateries past and present, the hangouts of Jewish gangsters, and the institutions that shaped generations of inhabitants. The neighborhood now hosts trendy clubs and young professionals while still embracing its grittier past.
