Entering the Orchard: How We Read the Talmud

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents a two-part series with Rav Johnny Solomon introducing the four classic levels of Torah interpretation known as Pardes — Peshat, Remez, Drash, and Sod. Using a story from Tractate Sanhedrin about a town called Truth, where no one ever lies and no one dies before their time, the sessions follow what happens when a visitor tells a small lie to protect his wife’s privacy. The series offers an accessible introduction to the habits of mind that shape Talmud study, from reading closely and noticing tensions to asking layered questions and searching beneath the text’s surface.
