SUMMARY:Judeo-Arabic and the Language of Baghdadi Jews
DESCRIPTION:Qesher presents a talk beginning with the wider world of Jewish languages and turning to Judeo-Baghdadi Arabic as a case study\, offering a window into the history\, culture\, and everyday life of one of the Middle East’s oldest Jewish communities. Through stories and sayings\, the session shows how a language can preserve memory\, identity\, and traces of the past long after a community has been dispersed. The talk explores what made Judeo-Baghdadi distinctive\, how it differed from the Arabic spoken by other communities in Baghdad\, and what it reveals about the history of Iraqi Jews.

DESCRIPTION:The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education\, in partnership with the Jewish Grandparents Network\, presents a three-part course with educator Jane Shapiro exploring what it means to reach the milestone of becoming a grandparent. SUMMARY:A Conversation with Journalist Matti Friedman
DESCRIPTION:During World War II\, a legendary team of Jewish parachutists who flew back into Europe from Palestine on a British mission became some of Israel’s founding heroes—and yet they never saved a single Jew or killed a single Nazi. How did a doomed mission come to shape a nation? \nJoin Award-winning journalist Matti Friedman and executive editor of the JTA and New York Jewish Week\, Hilary Krieger\, as they unpack the harrowing true story of Hannah Senesh and a group of other idealistic young Jews who escaped the Holocaust only to parachute back behind Nazi lines in 1944. Many died. The mission failed. So why are dozens of streets named for them? Why is there a Hannah Senesh school in Brooklyn and a Broadway play opening this fall? \nThis isn’t just wartime history—it’s a meditation on how stories shape nations and why myths can matter more than facts.

SUMMARY:Let’s Talk: Anticipatory Grief
DESCRIPTION:The Shomer Collective presents a Let’s Talk conversation between Rabbi Melanie Levav and Barri Leiner Grant of The Memory Circle on anticipatory grief\, the complicated feelings stirred up by foreseeing death or loss. The session considers how anticipatory grief can function as a meaningful coping mechanism\, what Jewish wisdom offers\, and which rituals might actually help. The conversation comes as the Jewish calendar prepares for a season traditionally devoted to mourning and collective loss.

SUMMARY:Sacred Architecture: The Design of Post-WWII Synagogues
DESCRIPTION:Moment Magazine presents a conversation with architect and scholar Dr. Anat M. Geva about her book “The Architecture of Modern American Synagogues\, 1950s–1960s\,” exploring the hundreds of new synagogues American Jews built after World War II with bold designs\, innovative construction\, and striking works of Jewish art. The discussion examines why these buildings remain architecturally significant\, the challenges of preserving them\, and how synagogue architecture is evolving today to balance openness and community with the need for security in an era of rising antisemitism. Geva will be in conversation with Moment Arts & Articles Editor Diane M. Bolz.

DESCRIPTION:The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents a two-part exploration with Steven Chervin of Eikhah\, the Book of Lamentations\, one of Judaism’s most powerful responses to loss\, grief\, and national tragedy\, as Tisha b’Av approaches. The sessions trace how Lamentations has served as a lens through which Jewish communities have remembered and understood later tragedies from ancient times to the present day\, including October 7. Participants will consider what wisdom\, strength\, and hope this ancient text can offer as we navigate the challenges of our own time.

SUMMARY:Visibility Practices: Women Photographers of the Bauhaus
DESCRIPTION:The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted\, Ostracized and Banned Art presents a talk by Carla Maria Huttenloher bringing women’s photographic agency to the forefront of the Bauhaus story. The session explores how the independent\, modern New Woman of the Weimar Republic converged with the experimental spirit of the New Vision\, transforming photography into a medium for self-representation and active participation in modern life. The talk also examines how the political and avant-garde visibility of several of these women made their positions increasingly precarious after 1933\, often resulting in exile\, displacement\, or the abrupt interruption of their careers.
