‘Desires’ by Celia Dropkin

YIVO will host a discussion on the new translation of “Desires” (White Goat Press, 2024), the only novel by Celia (Tsilye) Dropkin, originally serialized in the Jewish Daily Forward in 1934. Anita Norich’s translation introduces English readers to this work, which reflects on the conflicts of love, domesticity, and the erotic life through characters from Dropkin’s immigrant milieu. The event, co-sponsored by the Yiddish Book Center, will feature Norich in conversation with Lisa Newman, director of Publishing and Public Programs at the Yiddish Book Center.
