Concealed Histories: Nazi Looting & the Gilbert Collection
Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)

Join the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Provenance Curator, Dr Jacques Schuhmacher, as he uncovers the story of Nazi looting in the Gilbert Collection. As the children of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Rosaline and Arthur Gilbert were acutly aware of Nazi crimes. But, like so many other collectors of the time, they did not ask in-depth questions about the provenance – or history of ownership – of the masterpieces they added to their world class collections. Did they unwittingly aquire object the Nazis had confiscated or extorted from their Jewish victims?
