Chana’s Prayer and Ours – Individual and National Destiny

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

The Haftarah of the first day of Rosh Hashanah is the origin story of the prophet Samuel, one of the most influential people in our history. But it’s not his story, it’s the story of his mother, and her yearning not only for personal fulfillment, but for the welfare of the entire Jewish People.

Our sages derived the laws of prayer in general, and the prayers of Rosh Hashanah in particular, from Chana’s prayer. Together, we will listen carefully to her story, feel her anguish and her determination, and rejoice in her personal triumph, and ultimately the triumph of our people.
