Becoming Human: Kafka’s Short Stories and the Question of Identity
Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University
Siegal Lifelong Learning presents a course exploring the haunting and thought-provoking short stories of Franz Kafka, with particular focus on “A Report to an Academy,” in which an ape who becomes “human” raises unsettling questions about identity, conformity, freedom, and belonging. Participants will engage closely with selected stories, examining themes of alienation, transformation, and the pressures of modern life, with reading materials provided before the class. The course is offered in collaboration with BorderLight Cleveland and supplements their upcoming live show, “Peter Is Back.”
