SUMMARY:Next Year in the White House: Barack Obama's First Presidential Seder
DESCRIPTION:The Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program hosts a book talk with Eric Lesser and Richard Michelson about the true story of how a small Seder on the 2008 campaign trail led to the first Presidential Passover celebration at the White House. In 2009\, Passover joined Christmas and Easter as officially observed holidays\, following a basement Seder attended by campaign staff and then-candidate Barack Obama. Their story is now told for young readers in a picture book by Michelson\, illustrated by EB Lewis.

SUMMARY:Team Israel Baseball Documentary Screening and Q&A with Shawn Green
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this opportunity to watch a new documentary about Team Israel’s Olympics journey and hear from former MLB All-Star Shawn Green! \nTeam Israel is not your average national sports team. Made up mainly of American Jewish players who earn Israeli citizenship in order to compete in international competitions\, the team has in recent years brought together former MLB All-Stars and other players who had not felt strong ties to their Jewish identities. Playing for Team Israel — and traveling to Israel for the first time — changes that. \nFollowing the hit documentary “Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel\,” about Israel’s Cinderella run at the 2017 World Baseball Classic\, “Israel Swings For Gold” puts the camera in the players’ hands as the team competes in the Olympics for the first time. \nWith no media allowed in Tokyo’s Olympic Village\, the players recorded their own experiences — including unexpected battles against antisemitism and anti-Zionism. \n \nYour tickets to this unique event gets you: \n\nA week of online streaming access to the film\nAccess to an online conversation with Shawn Green\, former MLB All-Star and Team Israel player\, and Nate Fish\, the CEO of Israel Baseball America and Team Israel’s current manager\nA recording of that conversation that won’t expire

SUMMARY:Friday Evening Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.
