A Treasured Yiddish Book That Stayed Hidden for 75 Years
Hosted By: Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA)
The Yiddish Book Center presents a conversation with Goldie Morgentaler and Yiddish Book Center chief curator David Mazower about her mother, Yiddish writer Chava Rosenfarb, and an evening in London in 1949 when the young Holocaust survivor was feted by the city’s Yiddish writers as a promising new voice in Yiddish poetry. Morgentaler has just found her mother’s treasured copy of the book launched that night, signed by everyone present. The session shares stories of Rosenfarb and London’s Yiddish writers and reflects on what the tribute evening meant to the young writer facing an uncertain future.
