A History of Jewish Vienna: From Earliest Times to Today

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher presents a talk on the long and complex history of Jews in Vienna beyond the Shoah. The program traces Jewish life from Roman times through periods of persecution, Enlightenment influence, and the growth of a vibrant middle class in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It also examines the destruction of the community during the Holocaust and its revival as a smaller but active presence today.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
