Wise Fridays: A Monumental Risk

God as we encounter him in the Bible takes a risk monumental in its implications. He creates one being, humanity, capable itself of being creative. He creates, that is to say, a being in his own image. This act alters the whole nature of the universe. For there is now a life-form capable of language, thought, reflection, imagination and choice, able to conceive the idea of God, but also, given the nature of freedom and the human imagination, capable of rebelling against God.
