Chosen by Choice: Nellie Bowles and Bari Weiss on Living Jewishly

Hosted By: American Jewish University's Whizin Center for Continuing Education

Two journalists in love, Bari Weiss & Nellie Bowles, reveal their story of connection, meaning and choosing to lead a shared life rooted in Judaism.

Raised Greek-Orthodox and Episcopalian, NY Times journalist Nellie Bowles never planned to convert to Judaism, but then she met the love of her life, Bari Weiss – one of the most prominent voices of the American Jewish community – and realized her yearning for connection and community. In the past year, Bowles has been documenting her personal Jewish journey filled with fear, joy, missteps, and inspiration in her blog, Chosen by Choice.

Join Weiss and Bowles as together they explore Nellie’s unexpected path to Judaism, obstacles faced along the way, and living an authentic Jewish life. Their conversation will be moderated by AJU’s Rabbi Sherre Hirsch.
