If the belief in one God was supposed to be more rational and more sophisticated than the belief in many, then one could say that the belief in no god is more rational and more sophisticated than the belief in one god.

And furthermore:

If pluralism is actually a natural outgrowth of belief in a single, absolute God, as Rabbi Yitz Greenberg argues, then one could say that monotheism could be a natural outgrowth of a society which did not have a god-like belief system in place, but needed one to control the population.
