Yes, I’ve already suggested that lists like the Forward 50 are somewhat random, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be happy for our friends who made it! First and foremost among those is our good friend Rabbi Jill Jacobs over at Jewish Funds for Justice, who was noted for authoring a responsa that called for Jewish employers to pay their workers a living wage.
Rabbi Jacobs has been one of MJL’s most creative, dependable, and prolific writers over the years, writing on a wide variety of topics, including the ethical treatment of animals, Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), fighting poverty, and, yes, employer-employee relationships.
Rabbi Elliot Dorff, rector of the University of Judaism, was also named to the Forward 50, and many of his writings have been reprinted on MJL. Not least of which is his work on homosexuality and Jewish law, which catapulted him on to the list as the Conservative movement prepares to address the ordination of gays next month.
Our friend Aaron Bisman over at JDub Records was also listed. Earlier this week, during the GA in LA, Aaron and our other JDub buddy, Jacob Harris, produced a Hillel-sponsored concert featuring the LeeVees and Guster for 1,000 college students who participated in “Just For A Day” a “one-day social-justice blitz.” Kudos for the concert (which was great) and the list.
And last, but definitely not least, congrats to Lynn Schusterman, noted for her philanthropy — and passion. Lynn has been a friend and supporter of MyJewishLearning since it was launched four years ago.
