Kenny vs Spenny: Who is the Better Jew?

Have I mentioned before that I love television? Because I do (a lot).
One of my favorite, if not my favorite, shows is Kenny vs. Spenny. If you have never heard of it, you probably are not the only one. It appeared briefly last year on Comedy Central and has yet to return (not sure if it has been picked up again or not). However, it actually is in its fifth season on Showcase in Canada.

The show has a basic premise. Every week two best friends, Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice, have a competition against each other, with the loser being humiliated by the winner at the end of the show.

The competitions vary from basic to absurd. Some examples are “Who can gain the most weight?”; “Who do old people like more?”; all the way to “Who can have an octopus on his head the longest?”

What makes the show appealing is how absurd Kenny and Spenny actually are. Kenny is a born cheater, finding any way possible to beat Spenny. He once got his mother to fake her own death so Spenny would show up at the funeral instead of the competition. He even got a funeral home involved.

Spenny, on the other hand, tries to keep things clean and win fairly. However, after five seasons, Kenny has really gotten into Spenny’s head which has made him incredibly paranoid, and causing him to cheat as well.

This week’s competition was “Who is the Better Jew?” Both Kenny and Spenny happen to be Jewish. Spenny doesn’t really know anything about Judaism, admitting on the show that he chose not to have a Bar Mitzvah.

Kenny, on the other hand, is very Jewish. His mother, Tzafi, is Israeli. He speaks fluent Hebrew. He went to United Synagogue Day School in Toronto. As he mentions in the episode, he has an Aunt Yetta and an Uncle Murray. Doesn’t get more Jewish than that.

Luckily for everyone, every single episode of Kenny vs. Spenny is on YouTube. But I give you fair warning. If you are easily offended, do not, I repeat, do not watch this episode. Kenny dresses up like Hitler at one point. Also, if you have never seen Kenny vs. Spenny, I recommend watching a couple other episodes first because quite frankly, this may be one of their weaker episodes. I personally recommend “Who Can Catch a Bigger Fish?” from Season Three.

All episodes can be found here.

Otherwise, here is Part 1 of “Who is the Better Jew?”
