Tannaitic work which parallels and supplements the Mishnah. Dating from around the second century, it has six orders with the same names as those of the Mishnah. Some of its paragraphs (known as baraitot) are alternative versions of mishnaic paragraphs; others supplement the Mishnah or provide elucidation; still others are independent of mishnaic law.
